The most beautiful Bay in the world…

« I can’t walk around the Baie de Somme without observing something new. It’s like an immense book whose last word can never be seen”.

Philippe Carruette – Ornithologist in the Parc du Marquenterre

Less than 200km from Paris, an exceptional land of space spreads... The sky and the sea merge together... The Baie de Somme.

One of the most beautiful bays in the world, the Baie de Somme combines ponds, marshes, dunes and saltings. Its changing lights inspired many painters and writers: Delacroix, Degas, Colette, Jules Verne, and of course Alfred Manessier, creator of the church windows of Saint Sepulchre Church of Abbeville.

Also ranked Grand Site de France 2011, the Baie de Somme is one of the largest French natural sites for migratory birds: the Parc du Marquenterre is its sanctuary. Man meets nature and contemplates migratory birds whose presence had this haven of peace turned into a privileged stopover.
